Custom tiled walk-in shower in a finished Pittsburgh bathroom remodel by Dogwood Builders

Our specialty

Bathroom Remodeling in Pittsburgh

The work we do most, and it shows. From a worn-out hall bath to a full primary suite, one crew handles the whole job start to finish.

A bathroom remodel without the runaround

Most of our work comes from homeowners who were burned before: a contractor who disappeared mid-job, tile that failed in a year, a quote that doubled. We built Dogwood Builders to be the opposite of that. You deal with the owner. You get a written quote before anything starts. The site gets cleaned up every day you have to live around it.

We take the room down to what it needs to be, fix what is wrong behind the walls, and rebuild it so it lasts. No shortcuts on waterproofing. No leaving the last ten percent unfinished.

Curious what your project might run? We break it down in our guide to bathroom remodel costs in Pittsburgh, including what moves the price up and down.

What we handle

Full bathroom remodels

Down to the studs and rebuilt: layout, plumbing, tile, vanity, lighting and flooring.

Tub-to-shower conversions

Pull the old tub, build a clean walk-in shower that fits how you actually use the room.

Custom tile showers

Waterproofed right, set straight, grouted clean. The part most jobs get wrong.

Vanities & flooring

New vanity, top, fixtures and a floor that holds up to a wet room.

Small & powder baths

Tight spaces are their own skill. We make small bathrooms feel finished.

Aging-in-place updates

Low-step showers, grab bars and safer layouts for staying in your home longer.

What a full bathroom remodel includes

When we say full bathroom remodel, we mean the room comes apart and goes back together right. Here is what that actually involves.

We start with demo. The old tub or shower, tile, vanity, flooring and fixtures come out, down to the studs and subfloor where needed. That is when we see the truth about a bathroom: the plumbing, the framing, any water damage hiding behind the surfaces.

Then the work no one sees but everyone feels later. Any plumbing and electrical that needs updating, fresh framing where it is called for, and proper waterproofing for the wet areas. Next the shower or tub goes in, the tile is set and grouted, and the room is drywalled and finished.

Finally the parts you see every day: the vanity, countertop and sink, the flooring, the lighting and exhaust fan, the mirror, the fixtures, the trim and paint. One crew does all of it, in the right order, so nothing is left half-finished and no trade is working around another's mistakes. You get one written quote, one timeline, and one person responsible from the first day to the final walkthrough.

Tub-to-shower conversions, walk-in showers and small baths

Not every bathroom needs a full gut. Some of the most worthwhile projects we do are more focused.

Tub-to-shower conversions are one of the most popular. Plenty of homes have a tub nobody uses, taking up the best real estate in the room. We pull it and build a proper walk-in shower in its place: a real tiled shower, waterproofed correctly, with a low or no-step entry if you want one. The room instantly works better.

Walk-in showers are worth doing right. The difference between a shower that lasts and one that fails in a few years is almost entirely what happens behind the tile, the pan, the waterproofing and the slope. We do not cut corners there, because a failed shower costs far more to fix than it ever cost to build properly.

Small bathrooms and powder rooms are their own skill. A tight space punishes bad planning and gives you no room to hide a mistake. We are good at making a small Pittsburgh bathroom feel finished and intentional instead of cramped, with a smart layout, the right scale of fixtures, and clean tile work.

Waterproofing is the part that matters most

If you take one thing from this page, take this. The single most important part of a bathroom remodel is the part you will never see.

A bathroom is a wet room, and water finds every weakness. When a shower is built without proper waterproofing it does not fail right away. It fails in a year or three, behind the tile, where you cannot see it until the damage is done. By then you are not paying for a shower. You are paying for a shower plus rotted framing plus subfloor plus whatever is in the ceiling below.

We build showers to last. The pan done right, the waterproofing done right, the slope correct so water goes where it should. Tile set straight and grouted clean. It is not glamorous and it does not show up in a photo, but it is the difference between a bathroom that looks good for twenty years and one that becomes a problem.

This is also where cheap bids hide. If one quote comes in far below the others, the waterproofing and the prep are usually where the corners got cut. Ask any contractor how they waterproof a shower. A good one will have a clear answer.

Pittsburgh's bathroom renovation specialists

People call it different things. A bathroom remodel, a bathroom renovation, a bath makeover. Whatever you call it, you are looking for the same thing: bath remodelers who show up, do the work right, and finish what they start.

That is the whole reason Dogwood Builders exists. Bathroom renovation is the work we do most, in homes all over Pittsburgh and the North Hills, from a quick refresh to a full gut. You deal with the owner, you get a written quote before anything starts, and one crew handles the entire renovation start to finish. No disappearing acts, no tile that fails in a year, no quote that doubles halfway through.

How long it takes, and what it costs

Most full bathroom remodels run about two to four weeks once we start, depending on the size of the room and how much is changing. A focused update goes faster. A full gut with moved plumbing and custom tile takes longer. We give you a realistic timeline with your quote and keep you posted as the job moves, so you are never left wondering where things stand.

Cost depends on scope, the materials you choose, and what we find behind the walls. Rather than guess, we wrote the whole thing down: see our guide to bathroom remodel costs in Pittsburgh, with honest ranges and what moves the number. The only accurate figure for your bathroom is a written quote after we see the room, and that quote is free.

Bathroom remodeling across Pittsburgh and the North Hills

We remodel bathrooms throughout Pittsburgh and the North Hills. Much of the housing here is older: mid-century ranches and split-levels in Ross Township and Shaler, early-1900s homes in Bellevue and on the North Side, and newer builder-grade construction out in Wexford and Cranberry Township. Different homes, different bathrooms, the same standard of work.

Wherever you are, you get the same owner-run crew and the same clear process. See all the towns we cover on our service area page, or just call and ask.
